Additional Poker Games

Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud garner most of the attention and are the most frequently played types of poker games. However, there are various other poker games that are available.

Lowball Poker

Players are bet five cards face down followed by a round of betting. The object of the game is to obtain the lowest hand. After a round of betting players are allowed to replace cards in their hand in order to improve their hand strength in what is called the draw. In deuce to seven lowball or California lowball/Kansas City lowball, the best possible hand is seven, five, four, three, two (unsuited). Ace to five lowball derives its name from the fact that the best possible hand is five, four, three, two, Ace.

Pineapple

In Pineapple, players are dealt three hole cards. One of these cards is chosen to be discarded before the flop in regular Pineapple or after the flop in Crazy Pineapple. The flop is then dealt as are the subsequent fourth and fifth community or board cards. All betting occurs exactly as it would in Texas Hold’em.

Razz

Similarly to Lowball Poker, the lowest hand wins the pot in Razz. Aces are considered low and cards are dealt in according to the rules of Seven Card Stud. Straights and Flushes have no ranking in Razz and the best possible hand is five, four, three, two, Ace. This hand is termed a wheel.

Five Card Draw

Five cards are dealt to each player followed by a round of betting. After the round of betting, players can exchange a maximum of three cards in an attempt to improve their hand. A Final round of betting follows the draw and once all bets have been made a showdown between all those still possessing a hand will occur. The high hand according to the normal hand rankings of poker is the winner of the pot.

Trees

Five cards are dealt face down to all players, followed by a round of betting. Players can then exchange cards freely with any other players with no limit on the number of cards that can be exchanged except for the rule that a player must give the same number of cards that they receive. After all players have completed their trades, a final betting round occurs, followed by a showdown in which the high hand wins.
